You walk into the Municipal Exhibition Center-SUBTE, often to take a break while transiting the main avenue in Montevideo. It enters the large room, spacious and in a moment a sound is coming from one of its corners. Approaching meets real tears, the facility sets the end of September, the Uruguayan artist Catherine Romanelli.

The space is narrow and intimate as the work, it seems that were thought the one for the other, or vice versa. In the room XXS newly opened, the visitor is a summary of the 33-year life of the artist, in the form of vials containing tears, “tears and different types of objects that represent” metaphor. ”

These tears have already been exposed on several occasions. One was the First Meeting of Arts Ultractual in Brasilia in 2005. On that occasion stated Happy Tears, Sad Tears and Tears do not fall.

The 33 types of tears that are now exposed looking to share the two transformations, as expressed by Romanelli, occur in the act of mourn.

“To show the first video processing used a loop, where weeping and along Onion Tears, that’s where the tears bag to outside. To display the secondary processing facility chose as a tool, that is where the tears, drops of poetic agüita , charged with transforming energy speak for themselves. They speak the language of poetry and reach the heart of who receives …”, says the artist.

It is an introspective work, testimonial, but also calls for a personal response from the viewer. “Several friends came to see them and they told me they had cried” tears of emotion, “and I loved it, because I had no place to put these tears, but they are there as well! The tears are always the same, do not undergo changes, which transform ourselves are we to mourn and to receive, “he reflected.

Tears speak the language of poetry, why go so deep, in places where access is difficult. The heart gets Tears, poetic little water droplets, because they speak in their language, a language that we all know: love.

The artist

It was introduced in the field of artistic expression from very young. It is recalled Valizas drawing the dunes when I was on vacation, or drawing comic scenes at home. It is inspired by everything that surrounds it, colors, aromas, tastes, and tries to express the maximum amount of love and freedom in his work. This quest for freedom is also reflected in the way they work: “use what I have later on when necessary to get out, grab whatever is at hand, like little water droplets poetic!”. Considers that the facility enables you to work more freely, compared with other artistic genres, “an installation possibilities are endless, if the infinite exists and the freedom I have to create very attracted to me, I think if there’s freedom and love what you do, one is on the right path. ”

The figure for women is also very present in his work, especially in two of his series of paintings, Women and Women and Poetry Firulete.

His tour of Latin America, Europe and Asia has not only allowed to expose his work, but it also has brought to his self-taught. Considers that the failure to exhibit abroad has given her confidence in herself, “because we Uruguayans are too critical, we look for the fifth leg to the cat. In places like Brazil, everything is more relaxed, fun, without much serious face and the truth is that creation is more enjoyable when it flows freely. ”

Anyway, feel that somehow the country of his birth and where you live has permeated all of his creation, and all the places you’ve been.

“I’m very South American and the world, maybe that’s why with tears.”

The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 15:30 to 21:00 pm in the Municipal Exhibition Center-SUBTE, located in the Plaza del Entrevero.
